Hailey Mia Makes ‘The Voice’ History as the Youngest Singer to Compete

Hailey Mia took to the stage in her blind audition and wowed the audience with both her story and amazing vocals. Immediately after her first audition, she admitted that she waited her entire life to perform on The Voice stage. Coaches and the audience were shocked when this singer said she’s only 13 years-old. Hailey began on Team Ariana, but was later stolen by Team Kelly.
Hailey has made history on The Voice as the youngest singer yet. Before Hailey took to the stage, Levi Watkins and Brynn Cartelli were the youngest contestants at 14 years-old. Not only is this singer only 13 years-old, in her biography video she shared that she has double elevator palsy, a condition in which a person’s sight deteriorates.
At only eight years-old, Hailey had to undergo corrective surgery. The surgery was successful and she regained over 30 percent of her vision. The Voice‘s website notes that Hailey went on to teach herself how to read music and play piano after the surgery. Before the show, the singer was preparing to attend a technical school in which she’ll study vocal performance.
What Was Hailey’s Life Before The Voice?
Before her time on the show, Hailey was sharing singing videos to Instagram. Her first video on the account is a Kelly Clarkson cover! Little did this singer know that her post was foreshadowing her future on Team Kelly.
Although Hailey taught herself how to read music, her voice comes from talent and years of vocal lessons. This singer began vocal lessons at only eight years-old. Her mom put her into the lessons, and Hailey shared that she’s thankful. Even at a young age, this singer knew she was destined to sing, music makes her feel complete.
“Music makes me and singing also just makes me feel ways that just, can take my mind off of anything, anywhere. It’s just such a warm feeling in my heart and deep in my soul that i know this is something I’m passionate about,” said Hailey. “It feeds my soul to keep going… music makes me extremely happy.”
Even though this singer has been in vocal lessons, she still has learned a lot from celebrities on The Voice. She shared that Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, Kristin Chenoweth, and Ed Sheeran all gave her tips on how to find comfort on stage. She oftens thinks of the advice before each performance.
Throughout the competition, Hailey stuck close to 15 year-old Hailey Green from Team Blake. Even though Hailey Green was eliminated after her knockout performance against Libianca, Hailey Mia has shared that she is still in contact with this singer. She shared that her and Hailey Green did almost everything together before her friend was eliminated from the competition. There definitely will be a Hailey Mia, Hailey Green duet in the future that fans can watch out for.
As of right now, Hailey Mia is in it to win it in the competition. Throughout the past weeks, she’s stayed motivated and done the best of her ability. After earning the Instant Save vote, Hailey is more focused than ever. She hopes to be an inspiration to other people her age, but I’m sure she’d be happy with a superstar title as well.
