‘AGT’ Reveals a Golden Buzzer Twist as Auditions Wrap Up
Reading Time: 3 minutes
America’s Got Talent Season 19 returned on Tuesday night with a new episode, as auditions officially wrapped up. The episode didn’t feature a Golden Buzzer, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last one this year. At the end of the night, host Terry Crews revealed a new twist for the live shows.
AGT Reveals Golden Buzzer Twist for Live Shows
Tuesday’s episode of AGT marked the eighth and final week of auditions, as the judges watched the last group of acts take the stage for their chance to move on. The show will now take a two-week hiatus to make room for NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics.
The live shows will kick off on August 13, with a results show the next day. According to NBC, the judges will choose 55 acts to compete in the live shows (including the Golden Buzzer recipients). Eleven acts each will perform across five episodes to determine who goes to the Finals.
This season, the rules were changed to allow the judges to hit the Golden Buzzer for two acts each. At the end of Tuesday’s episode, it was revealed that there are even more Golden Buzzers this season. For the first time in the show’s history, each of the judges will be allowed to hit the Golden Buzzer for one act in the live shows, sending that act straight to the Finals.
This means there will be a total of 13 Golden Buzzers this season, and four of the 11 finalists will earn their spot thanks to a Golden Buzzer in the live shows. This presumably means that an act can earn two Golden Buzzers this season, if they already received one for their audition.

Auditions Have Officially Wrapped Up
Tuesday’s episode featured the final auditions of Season 19. Highlights from the show included Airfootworks, a unique Japanese dance group; a dangerous balancing act from Alejandro Licea Pellon; and powerhouse singer Brooke Bailey.
Although the episode didn’t feature any Golden Buzzers, we’ve already seen nine of them this season. Judge Simon Cowell gave the honor to singer Liv Warfield and drone group Sky Elements. Heidi Klum chose to hit it for singers Richard Goodall and Pranysqa Mishra. Sofia Vergara hit it for dance group Legión and comedy duo Schumacher. Howie Mandel gave the honor to dance group Brent Street and singer Reid Wilson.
Host Terry Crews also got to hit one Golden Buzzer this season. He gave the honor to comedian Learnmore Jonasi. This is the first time since Season 15 that there hasn’t been a group Golden Buzzer — unless there’s a surprise during the live shows.
Last season also introduced an audience Golden Buzzer, which went to Mzansi Youth Choir. That concept doesn’t seem to have returned for Season 19 either. But considering how many other Golden Buzzers there have been this season, it’s hard to complain.
Who do you think will earn a Golden Buzzer during the live shows? Which acts are you rooting for? Let us know in the comments below, and tune in to AGT Season 19 when it returns to NBC on August 13.

The Golden Buzzer in the Live Shows IS NOT Needed
AGT needs to take a cue from IGT
If this stays might as well expand the Field and Live Shows
