‘The Voice’ Winner Brynn Cartelli Makes Kelly Clarkson Cry with New Song

Brynn Cartelli walked away as the winner of Season 14 of The Voice in 2018. She was coached by Kelly Clarkson, the ultimate pairing that led her to become the youngest female winner ever. Now, three years later, Brynn appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to perform her emotional new song.
Brynn Cartelli Leaves Kelly Clarkson in Tears After Emotional Performance
Brynn had auditioned back in Season 13 of The Voice but never made it onto one of the coach’s teams. Season 14 was a chance for redemption and it also happened to be Clarkson’s firsts season as a coach. Brynn was Clarkson’s first chair turn on the show.
Seeing Brynn on The Kelly Clarkson Show, now 18 years old is like a full-circle moment. Reuniting with her coach that helped launch her career was so bittersweet. Brynn talked to Clarkson about her debut EP called Based On A True Story which is out on May 28. Coming up with a name for her EP was actually really hard for Brynn.
“I actually was looking for a really long time but nothing was standing out to me,” she told Clarkson.
Brynn was thinking about the time in her life after winning The Voice where she kind of went out of the spotlight for a little bit. She focused on songwriting and figuring out which direction she wanted to take her career. It reminded her of the filming of a documentary. This led her to the name Based On A True Story.
Brynn Performs on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’
To mark her new EP coming out, Brynn performed “If I Could” on The Kelly Clarkson Show. It’s about all of the people in her life that deserve love to the highest degree. She has seen so many people in relationships that they don’t deserve. Brynn loves her friends and doesn’t want anyone to hurt them which led to her writing the heartfelt song.
A lot of the EP was actually finished last year so Brynn found it interesting to see how much this song has taken on a new form with age.
The performance was so good it literally made Clarkson burst out crying. In this very emotional and raw moment, she looked like such a proud mentor to Brynn who is growing up right before her eyes.
“If you don’t feel something in your heart right now you’re dead,” Clarkson said wiping the tears from her eyes.
