Hailey Mia Earns Top 13 Spot After Kelly Clarkson Raves About Her Performance
Last week, The Voice announced the singers up for elimination after the first live performance. They went team by team and first announced the two singers America chose to save, then let the coaches choose their pick. From there, the remaining two people were either up for elimination, or for the instant save. Hailey Mia on Team Kelly was the winner of this week’s instant save, a position her coach says she never should have been in.
This singer took to the stage singing “Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo and totally killed her performance. The 14 year-old powerhouse singer definitely gave one of the best performances of the season with this one. Her vocals were so good that Kelly Clarkson couldn’t stop talking about how talented her singer was.
“Well I’m still standing, you just turned 14! Like I’ve been 14 and singing and no one sounds like that. You’re incredible,” said Clarkson. “Your vibrato, your control, the head voice, the brokeness, you are like–if every record label right now isn’t just like–oh my god at the screen they’re all idiots! You’re so good!”
With a review like that from her coach, you’d think Hailey wouldn’t have been up for elimination. Shockingly she was up for the wildcard performance following her best performance in the competition yet. She was up against Team Ariana’s Bella DeNapoli, Team Blake’s Peedy Chavis, Team Legend’s Samuel Harness, and wildcard former Team Ariana member, Vaughn Mugol. In Hailey’s wildcard performance, she sang “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri. She killed yet another performance and claimed her rightfully deserved spot in the Top 13.
Hailey was definitely not the only shocking singer to give a wildcard performance on Tuesday night. The Voice fans were also shocked to see Bella, Peedy, and Samuel in this position. Each singer had an amazing comment from their coach, similar to Hailey’s. Blake Shelton said that his mom wanted to vote for Peedy! Shouldn’t that be enough to win over America? Peedy and Bella were both front runners in the competition, so it was hard to comprehend why America didn’t vote for them.
Why Didn’t These Singers Get Saved by Their Coaches?
Before the wildcard announcement, coaches were able to save one of their singers from elimination. Instead of Hailey, Clarkson chose Gymani to continue on the in the competition. Some would say that Clarkson shouldn’t have reacted the way she did after Hailey’s performance if the singer wasn’t going to be considered for a save, but I think Clarkson knew Hailey could win the instant save.
The same goes for Bella DeNapoli and Peedy Chavis. Ariana Grande had to choose between Raquel Trinidad, Bella, or Ryleigh Plank. Out of the three singers, the coach chose Ryleigh… which could have been predicted. It was obvious that Ryleigh was having an off night since she was having a hard time holding pitch. Grande knew that both Bella and Raquel could battle if needed, so she chose the singer that truly needed saving.
At the end of the day, Hailey deserved this instant save. The teen has given multiple great performances throughout the season and rightfully deserved a spot in the Top 13.
Tonight, The Voice is back for another set of live performances. Voting will open at the beginning of the show and close tomorrow morning.
