Last night The Voice Kids returned to ITV in Britain and the fans are going nuts over it. Judges Will.i.Am, Pixie Lott, and Danny Jones are back to listen to aspiring singers from ages 7-15 do their thing. This made me think about something we’ve heard The Voice fans from the U.S. saying: That maybe they should start a Voice Kids U.S.
The reason that people say this is because increasingly over the last few years there have been a slew of teenagers competing on The Voice. Brynn Cartelli, who won this last season, was only 15. This trend isn’t only on The Voice as young contestants appear on AGT and American Idol as well. These singers tend to be good but unseasoned and it is an odd juxtaposition to put them against performers that have been singing for a decade or more.
The thing about The Voice Kids is that they go REALLY young, like elementary school young. But would it benefit The Voice USA to up the age limit for the show to something like 18 and then create a separate show in between seasons with kids and teens? I imagine a lot of people would watch that. If AGT has taught us anything it’s that people love singing children. Perhaps it would even the playing field on the regular show if these adult singers weren’t competing against kids. What do you think?
