Reading Time: 2 minutes
On Sunday, American Idol Season 22 returned for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame night, as guest mentor Gene Simmons prepared the remaining singers for their performances. The Top 14 was narrowed down to the Top 12, as two contestants went home.
UPDATE (4/23/24): The Top 10 singers were revealed during Monday night’s show. They are Abi Carter, Emmy Russell, Jack Blocker, Julia Gagnon, Kaibrienne, Kayko, Mckenna Faith Breinholt, Mia Matthews, Triston Harper, and Will Moseley.
Singers Transform Themselves in American Idol Top 14
For Sunday’s performance, 15-year-old Triston Harper stepped outside of his comfort zone by performing with a new look. He ditched the cowboy hat and sang without a guitar, opting for a hip-shaking performance of Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel.” Katy Perry joked that Triston “scared me.”
Meanwhile, Platinum Ticket winner Julia Gagnon said when she was growing up, she didn’t see people who looked like her “glammed up and singing about love.” So she chose to don a gown and sing “Run to You” by Whitney Houston. Julia delivered a stunning vocal performance, with Luke Bryan calling her a butterfly.
The singers weren’t the only ones who experienced a transformation on Sunday. Judge Katy Perry changed her mind about singer Jack Blocker after he sang “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” by Bob Dylan. She told him, “You’re just so cool. I think I was wrong. You are the coolest.”

Who Made It Into the Top 12?
At the end of the night, two singers had to be eliminated following America’s vote. Host Ryan Seacrest revealed which singers made it into the Top 12: Abi Carter, Emmy Russell, Jack Blocker, Jayna Elise, Julia Gagnon, Kaibrienne, Kayko, Mckenna Faith Breinholt, Mia Matthews, Roman Collins, Triston Harper, and Will Moseley.
The two singers who went home were Jordan Anthony and Nya. For Sunday’s show, Jordan chose to sing “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston, while Nya performed “I Say a Little Prayer.” Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to send them into the Top 12.
The singers who made it through Sunday’s show will return to the stage on Monday night, as Meghan Trainor will appear as a celebrity mentor. The Top 12 will be narrowed down to the Top 10 as singers perform Billboard No. 1 hits. Tune in on ABC and get ready to cast your votes.
