Kelsea Ballerini filled in for Kelly Clarkson at the beginning of Season 20 of The Voice when she was feeling under the weather. She did an awesome job holding down Team Kelly. Kenzie Wheeler is the last remaining artist on Team Kelly in tonight’s finale episode and got to perform with the country superstar.
Kenzie Wheeler Teams Up with Kelsea Ballerini on ‘The Voice’ Finale
Ballerini started the performance by singing “Half of My Hometown,” standing in a bedroom. The song is sung with country crooner Kenny Chesney who was not on hand at tonight’s finale. Instead, when Ballerini made her way out onto the stage, Kenzie joined in with background vocals. It was the perfect pairing and a bit unexpected since the collaboration was not announced beforehand.
Carson Daly called Ballerini over after the performance to chat with her about her experience serving as a guest coach. Props to Ballerini for stepping in at the last second when Clarkson called her this season. We would absolutely love to see her as a regular coach on a future season of The Voice.
“Oh it was way better,” Blake Shelton chimed in about Ballerini taking Clarkson’s place on the coaching panel.
Ballerini, who has been a superfan of Clarkson’s since she was a little girl, had to stick up for Clarkson. She hit back at Shelton who is the ultimate jokester on the show.
“The fact that you trusted me with this was a huge deal and I had so much fun…the talent’s insane and I got to pick on Blake so it’s a win-win,” Ballerini said.
Ballerini also just announced some huge news with a fellow Voice coach. She will be joining the Jonas Brothers on a huge tour this summer with 44 concert dates.
“We couldn’t be more excited to officially announce we are going on tour THIS summer and bringing our friend Kelsea Ballerini!” the band said in a press release. “If this past year has taught us anything it’s that we need to remember the important moments in our lives. We hope these shows will be special moments for our fans, our friends and our families and we can’t wait to see all their faces soon!!”
