Jessica Sanchez Almost Didn’t Perform on AGT Live Show

During Tuesday’s show, Jessica Sanchez took the stage to perform “Ordinary” by Alex Warren, showing off some powerhouse vocals. Those watching would have had no idea that Jessica apparently hadn’t been feeling well before her performance.

“I am absolutely blown away, because a few seconds ago, before Jessica came out, I heard that she wasn’t feeling too good,” judge Simon Cowell said after Jessica performed. “And I said, ‘Look, honestly, genuinely, it’s your choice whether you want to do this or not.'”

Cowell shared that Jessica apparently said, “No, I want to do this.” He called her a “very brave person” and complimented her performance, saying she has “such an amazing tone.” Cowell also said that Jessica has “a glow about you.” He predicted that viewers at home would be rooting for her.

Jessica isn’t the first Season 20 contestant to almost miss their Quarterfinals performance due to illness. In the first week of live shows, Jourdan Blue revealed that he had dealt with vomiting before his performance. He ended up advancing to the Semifinals the following night.

In a recent interview with Talent Recap, Jessica revealed that she’s due in mid-October, sharing, “I feel like it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and to be able to be on stage with my baby in my belly and do this with her, I feel like I’m on cloud nine.”

Judge Sofia Vergara, who pressed the Golden Buzzer for Jessica in the audition round, called her Quarterfinals performance “amazing,” adding, “I know that you have felt that you’ve been struggling because of the belly and the breathing, and your voice doesn’t feel the same, but that was spectacular.”

Mel B told Jessica that she has “never sounded better.” When talking to host Terry Crews on stage, Jessica said, “I take pride in what I do on stage, and I didn’t want to let my big belly affect that. So I’m super happy I was able to deliver.”
