How Meghan Markle was Involved in Robin Thicke’s Wedding

Before she was one of the most talked-about celebrities of the decade, Meghan Markle mastered the art of calligraphy. It led her to have some interesting celebrity encounters including one with The Masked Singer judge Robin Thicke before Markle was even a successful actress.
Meghan Markle Wrote Robin Thicke’s Wedding Invitations
While Markle was in school, she picked up calligraphy and later used her skills as a side gig. She wrote invitations and cards which helped pay her rent as she looked for acting jobs. When Thicke and his now ex-wife Paula Patton were looking for someone to write their wedding invitations in 2005, Markle was the woman for the job.
“I went to an all-girls Catholic school for, like, six years during the time when kids actually had handwriting class,” Markle told Esquire in 2013. “I’ve always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well. What it evolved into was my pseudo-waitressing job when I was auditioning. I didn’t wait tables. I did calligraphy for the invitations for, like, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton’s wedding.”
Thicke and Patton divorced in 2014. She accused him of emotional and physical abuse and cheating. The pair are on better terms now as they co-parent their 10-year-old son Julian and have attended therapy together.
Markle Made Some Money Off of Calligraphy for Major Brands
While The Masked Singer judge’s first marriage fell apart, Markle has clearly had quite an impressive resume with her calligraphy skills. This was put on the back burner once she launched her acting career which included appearances on Deal or No Deal with ‘AGT’ judge Howie Mandel and Suits.
“I used to do it for Dolce & Gabbana’s celebrity correspondence over the holidays,” she said. “I would sit there with a little white tube sock on my hand so no hand oils got on the card, trying to pay my bills while auditioning. I’m glad that in the land of no one seeming to appreciate a handwritten note anymore that I can try to keep that alive.”
And there’s good news for anyone looking to get into the calligraphy business, it might earn you some serious cash.
“It’s super-lucrative, because there are so few people doing it,” she added. “What’s funny is I probably still have some calligraphy business cards floating out in the world and I can’t wait for someone to call me in a month or something, and say, ‘Can you do these for my son’s Bar Mitzvah?'” she said at the time.
Both Thicke and Markle have moved on from this point in their lives. Markle has taken on a much bigger role as the Duchess of Sussex after marrying Prince Harry in 2018. The pair are parents to 1-year-old son Archie and are awaiting the arrival of their baby girl. Thicke is engaged to model April Love Geary and the pair have three children together.
It’s safe to say whenever Thicke does get married again, Markle will not be handwriting all of the invitations.
