25 Year Old Stay-At-Home Mom Impresses With Carrie Underwood Song on ‘American Idol’

American Idol is back! With the first episode of Season 23 premiering this Sunday, ABC has released the first full audition preview for the premiere. On Thursday, the show released Breanna Nix’s Carrie Underwood audition.
Singer Impresses With Carrie Underwood Song in New Audition
The early release audition features 25 year old stay-at-home mom Breanna Nix and her husband Austin on the piano. Since the couple were both occupied during Breanna’s audition, their son, Emerson was able to sit with the judges while his mother sang.
While introducing herself, Breanna explained that she’s “just” a stay-at-home mom. The judges corrected her, explaining that she has the most important job and they’re sure her son appreciates it.
For her audition, Breanna sang “Jesus, Take The Wheel” by Carrie Underwood. This was definitely a risk, since she was singing the song to newest American Idol judge Carrie Underwood.
During the audition, Breanna’s son was seen being held by Underwood. He even fell asleep to his mom’s voice. The judges, on the other hand, were seen swaying to the tune.
After the performance, Underwood had tears in her eyes. She admitted that Emerson is “so adorable and sweet” which is what led her to choke up. Breanna explained that they’ve been on many car rides where he’d sing along with the song because of how many times he’s heard it.
Breanna Wants to Set an Example For Her Son
In Breanna’s story package, she admitted that the “chaotic and crazy” stay-at-home mom lifestyles is “one of the most amazing things that’s happened” to her. She further explained that Emerson was the blessing she “didn’t know she needed.”
While looking back at her childhood, Breanna recalled being overweight her entire life. She knew once she became a mother she needed to get herself to a healthier weight to be there for him. This mentality sent her on a self-love journey. Ever since the journey, she’s trying to teach her son that anything is possible.
“He’s watching his mama chase after her dreams,” she said. “I’m just hoping one day he’ll do the same thing.”
