American Idol Season 22 contestant Triston Harper got fans talking this month when he shared that not only is he married at age 16, but he and his new wife are expecting a baby together. Fans weighed in on the situation in a recent Reddit thread.
16-Year-Old Triston Harper Is Married, Expecting Baby
Triston competed on Season 22 of American Idol earlier this year, finishing in fifth place. Earlier this month, the singer updated his Facebook page to show that he married his girlfriend, Paris Reed, on November 6.
Just two days later, Triston’s mom Hattie Mae Sullivan posted a photo of him and Paris posing with a positive pregnancy test. Sullivan shared that she’s about to be a “G Ma.” She added the hashtags #TeamPink and #TeamBlue, most likely encouraging friends to guess the baby’s sex.
Triston reposted his mom’s announcement, but he didn’t add anything to it. An American Idol fan shared the news on the show’s subreddit, prompting other fans to react to the idea of such a young couple getting married and having kids.

Fans React to Triston’s Marriage
“This is really sad,” wrote one fan on the Reddit thread discussing Triston getting married and expecting a baby. Another wrote that it was “troubling” that his mother would allow him to get married at such a young age.
Other fans pointed out that Sullivan herself was a young parent, reportedly giving birth to Triston at age 21. In his audition, Triston shared that his mother left an abusive relationship with his stepfather, and they faced homelessness when he was 12 years old.
The fan who posted about Triston’s marriage on Reddit claimed that he was “asking fans for money.” This potentially refers to a recent post on the singer’s Facebook account, linking to a GoFundMe campaign to help Triston’s mother, who is apparently in the process of converting an “unfinished storage building” into a “mini-home.”
