‘American Idol’ Showrunner Teases ‘Big Format Changes’ Next Season

American Idol is set to return for Season 24 next year, and showrunner Megan Michaels Wolflick has teased that there are “big format changes” coming to the show. She also offered her advice for singers who are auditioning for the next season.
American Idol Producer Teases Season 24 Changes
American Idol executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick recently spoke to TV Insider about the process of auditioning new talent for Season 24. When asked what fans can expect from the new season, Wolflick teased that there are changes coming.
“We do have some changes,” Wolflick shared. “I can’t really get into any details, but we do have some big format changes coming for sure. There are going to be some surprises around every turn for sure.”
When asked about the series’ future, Wolflick said that American Idol is “more than a show,” explaining, “Every class, every year we get better and better talent. I just want to make sure people are excited, because we are all only on once a year. It is event-like.”
Season 24 will feature the return of judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood. Wolflick said that Underwood is “so tapped into the experience” after her first season as a judge earlier this year, adding, “She is only going to get better.”

EP Gives Advice for Auditioning Singers
Hopeful singers can submit their online auditions now to be considered for Season 24 of American Idol. During her interview with TV Insider, Wolflick shared her advice for auditioning contestants. Her top tip? “Be yourself.”
“There is a lot of noise out there,” she shared. “A lot of comments and doom scrolling and people getting in their heads a lot of the time. There is nothing better than taking a deep breath, chilling and relaxing.”
Wolflick advised auditioning singers to “just follow your heart,” adding, “Pick a song you want to sing and be prepared.”
A premiere date has not yet been announced for Season 24 of American Idol, but it will likely premiere in February or March of 2026.
