Ryan Seacrest has shared a funny story about the Dancing with the Stars cast’s recent episode of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. The host apparently had to stop Derek Hough from damaging the titular wheel during a commercial break.
Ryan Seacrest Talks About Derek Hough on Wheel of Fortune
Last month, Derek Hough appeared on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune alongside fellow DWTS judge Bruno Tonioli and pro dancer Jenna Johnson. According to the show’s host Ryan Seacrest, Hough got pretty acrobatic during the show’s commercial breaks.
“In the commercial break, (Hough) was jumping on the center of the wheel and having Bruno spin it, much like the top of a cake ornament,” Seacrest told USA Today. “We did say, ‘Please don’t do that. That would break it, and there’s only one of those wheels. If that breaks, we have a real problem.'”
He apparently told Hough to “stick to the ledge” instead, as Seacrest said of the DWTS stars, “They’re very physical, and that makes for fun.”
The host famously dated Hough’s sister Julianne years ago. Seacrest shared that it’s “definitely helpful” when he knows a celebrity contestant, explaining, “You can kind of tease them more than somebody you don’t know.”
Derek Hough ended up winning his episode of Wheel of Fortune, earning $63,350 for Feeding America. The dancer also received a special gift from the show’s longtime co-host Vanna White — a handmade baby blanket for his future child.
In a clip from Extra (for which Hough is the new host), White can be seen presenting Hough with the heartfelt gift. The yellow blanket features a tag that reads, “Crocheted for you by Vanna White.” The dancer is currently expecting his first child with wife Hayley Erbert.
“I can’t wait to show this to my wife, and I can’t wait to swaddle — oh, I’m gonna get emotional,” Hough told White as he began to tear up over the sweet gift.
