‘AGT’ Introduces New Semifinals Golden Buzzer for Season 20

America’s Got Talent is currently gearing up for the Season 20 live shows, which will feature a new Golden Buzzer in the Semifinals. This will allow the show’s judges to send yet another act straight into the Finals.
AGT Introduces Semifinals Golden Buzzer in Season 20
In earlier seasons of AGT, each judge was allowed to hit the Golden Buzzer once during the competition. In recent years, the rules have changed to not only allow for more Golden Buzzers in the audition rounds, but also in the live shows.
Last season, each of the four judges was allowed to press the Golden Buzzer once during the Quarterfinals. This season, in addition to the Quarterfinals Golden Buzzers, there will also be one Semifinals Golden Buzzer.
According to NBC, each judge will have their own chance to hit the Golden Buzzer in the Quarterfinals, sending their chosen act straight into the finale. However, there will only be one Golden Buzzer in the Semifinals, and how the judges choose to award it remains to be seen.
NBC teases that “anything could happen,” since the Semifinals will be live. The judges could agree on an a Golden Buzzer together, or they could compete with each other to be the one to do the honors. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

When Do the Live Shows Start?
Auditions for Season 20 wrapped up this past week, and 44 acts were chosen to move on to the live Quarterfinals. However, those acts won’t return to the stage this week. Instead, NBC will be airing a 20th anniversary special looking back at AGT‘s greatest moments, Tuesday night at 8/7c.
Then on Tuesday, August 19, the first night of the live Quarterfinals will air on NBC. For the first time this season, fans at home will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite acts to move on to the Semifinals. Additionally, the judges will be allowed one Golden Buzzer each, sending an act straight into the finale.
