Jinkx Monsoon Joins Cast of Doctor Who
After their impressive run on Broadway, Monsoon is now gearing up to be Russell T Davies’ addition in the “Whoniverse.” According to reports, the drag diva has secured a significant role in the BBC series, one that hasn’t been revealed at the moment.
“In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all,” Davies said. “Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again.”
Having been one of the most sought-after drag performers, Monsoon has landed the role of Matron “Mama” in Broadway’s Chicago. Arguably, their milestone was a historic moment for the queer sector, being the first ever drag queen to secure the role. Now, with a BBC series under their belt, it’s once again a win for the LGBTQIA+ community.
“I’m honored, thrilled, and utterly excited to join ‘Doctor Who!’ Russell T. Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer — I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”
Monsoon will appear in Doctor Who along with Ncuti Gatwa, who recently joined the next season as the Fifteenth Doctor. Furthermore, Millie Gibson will co-star as his companion, Ruby Sunday, on the forthcoming episodes.
She is Set to Embark on Everything At Stake Tour
The Broadway star will also be hitting the road starting June for their new show Everything At Stake tour. In addition, this tour was inspired by one a fan-favorite moment from her stint on Drag Race All Stars season seven.
“It was the [fan] reaction to the burning dress that motivated the motif for this tour,” they said.
Monsoon will travel to 44 North American cities, thus their most ambitious progress to date. Everything At Stake is a mix between stand-up comedy, rock concert, and drag. Additionally, the tour will serve as a form of resistance against the discriminatory policies proposed by politicians.
Everything At Stake tour will begin on June 12 at Royal Theatre in Victoria, British Columbia. It will then conclude in August 14 at Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon. Their longtime creative partner, Major Scales, and their husband, Michael, will join them in her collaborative process.
“This show is going to be less narrative, less a plot, and more like a showcase of everything that I’ve got to offer,” they said.
