Britain’s Got Talent is about to return for Series 18, and it sounds like this year’s competition will be bringing the danger. Despite past complaints about controversial acts, the show reportedly won’t be holding back on the suspenseful performances.

BGT Series 18 Will Have a ‘Lot of Danger’

“There’s a lot of danger this year,” co-host Ant McPartlin said of the new series, according to Yahoo. “There was a moment this year where we were scared for Simon Cowell’s life. Genuinely, it was all a bit scary!”

In the incident McPartlin mentioned, the show’s staff reportedly had to intervene when a contestant smashed a watermelon with a mallet frighteningly close to Simon Cowell’s head. Another contestant apparently put a meat hook through his nose and mouth.

“We do have kids in the audience,” Cowell said of the new series. “I’m always looking behind, going do they like it? They actually, yeah they do. We probably will get some complaints, yeah.”

Cowell is alluding to the number of Ofcom (Office of Communications) complaints BGT has received over the years due to controversial acts. In addition to dangerous moments, complaints have been made about comedy acts, performances with social messages, and even judge Amanda Holden’s outfits.

When Does Series 18 Premiere?

BGT Series 18 is set to premiere on Saturday, February 22, at 7 pm on ITV1, ITVX, and STV. Longtime hosts Ant & Dec will be back, along with judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli. However, Tonioli will be absent for some auditions, with guest judge KSI filling in.

The show has never premiered this early in the year, as the competition usually kicks off in April. The trailer for Series 18 has teased some wild moments, including an audience member appearing to feud with Tonioli, and a contestant impersonating Cowell.

And of course, this year’s competition will also feature several Golden Buzzers from the judges and hosts. That includes at least one Golden Buzzer from KSI, as teased in the trailer. Are you excited to watch the new acts? Let us know in the comments below.
