Luke Bryan Shares Advice for New ‘American Idol’ Judge Carrie Underwood
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Luke Bryan recently responded to the news that Carrie Underwood is joining American Idol in an interview with Audacy’s 100.7 The Wolf. The longtime judge gave some funny advice to his new co-star, who is replacing Katy Perry on the panel next season.
Luke Bryan Shares American Idol Advice for Carrie Underwood
“If she has a therapist, she’s probably going to have to double [up] to deal with me and Lionel [Richie],” Bryan shared at Watershed Music Festival over the weekend when asked what advice he would give to Underwood.
The country star kept the joke going, as he wondered, “Do therapists do gift cards? I can call her therapist and gift her a voucher.” Hopefully he and Richie don’t make things too hard for Underwood when she joins the show in Season 23.
Perry announced earlier this year that she would be leaving the show, and fans wondered for months about who might replace her. Last week, American Idol announced that Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood will be filling her seat next season.

The Show Will Return Next Year
Underwood will be joining the show for Season 23, alongside returning judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. Longtime host Ryan Seacrest will also be back to emcee the new season, which is expected to premiere in the spring.
No official premiere date has been announced for the new season, but in recent years, the seasons have kicked off in February. So fans can probably expect to see new episodes around that time in 2025. In the meantime, auditions are now open for hopeful singers to try out.
Singers can submit a video audition or sign up for a live virtual audition with a producer. Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements to try out for the show, which include being at least 15 years old by February 15, 2025.
