‘American Idol’ Shares Season 23 Preview, Featuring Carrie Underwood

Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Ryan Seacrest on 'American Idol'

American Idol fans should start getting excited, because the show just shared a new preview for Season 23 featuring first-time judge Carrie Underwood. The preview includes a few clips from upcoming auditions.

American Idol Shares Season 23 Preview

The new preview features clips from Underwood’s time competing on Season 4 of American Idol back in 2005. Underwood ultimately won the show and went on to become a successful country star. Now, 20 years later, she’s back to sit on the show’s judging panel.

Underwood can be seen stepping into the Season 23 auditions with her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. She can be heard telling an auditioning contestant, “You’re what this show is for.” The video then teases a few more hopefuls from the show’s new season.

At the end of the preview, Underwood asks a contestant to share her “inspirations,” and the young lady gestures to the judge as she responds, “I’m looking at her right here.” Underwood appears to be touched by the contestant’s words.

When Does the New Season Premiere?

The new season of American Idol is set to premiere on Sunday, March 9, on ABC. This is a little bit later than the show has premiered in recent years. The last time it premiered in March was all the way back in Season 17.

Underwood is taking the seat that was previously occupied by Katy Perry, who served as a judge on the show for seven seasons alongside Bryan and Richie. She announced that she would be leaving the show earlier this year.

Singer Abi Carter was named the winner of the most recent season. Who will be the 2025 champion? We’ll have to wait and see. Are you excited for the Season 23 premiere? What do you think about Underwood joining the show? Let us know in the comments below.
