Ariana Grande recently took to Instagram stories to share a photo from the recording studio. However, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about the former Voice coach recording a new album, as she appears to be in the studio for the upcoming Wicked movie adaptation.

Ariana Grande Posts Studio Photo for ‘Wicked’

Grande doesn’t appear in the new photo, which shows three people in a recording studio. She tagged two Instagram users in the post, writing that she’s “obsessed” with them. Those people are Stephen Oremus and Greg Wells.

This is an important detail, because it means Grande is most likely recording something for Wicked, not an original album. Oremus was the musical director and arranger for Wicked on Broadway, and Wells is a music producer who worked on the soundtracks for In the Heights and The Greatest Showman.

Still, that didn’t stop some fans from getting excited about the prospect of hearing new original music from Grande. As one Twitter user wrote, “THE RECORDING STUDIO? OMG I’M UP!” Another wrote, “AG7 IS COMING,” referring to Grande’s seventh studio album.

Grande Has Said She’s Not Working on New Music

Earlier this year, Grande shut down rumors that she was working on a new album, admitting, “The truth is, I have not begun an album. I know I hear through the grapevine that you have a lot of theories and expectations in that department, but after Positions, [I] was not ready to start another album yet.”

Grande said she “went into full preparation mode” when she heard that there would be an audition coming up for the Wicked movie, and she was also busy shooting The Voice last year. She added that the role of Glinda will “have every piece of me.”

It was announced earlier this year that the Wicked movie adaptation will be split into two films. Grande is starring as Glinda, opposite Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. The movies are scheduled to be released on Christmas in 2024 and 2025.
