Jelly Roll could potentially be pardoned for crimes he committed before fame, as recommended by the Tennessee Board of Parole. In a recent interview, the singer opened up about getting a “second chance” in life.
Jelly Roll Could Be Pardoned for His Past Crimes
According to ABC News, the Tennessee Board of Parole recently held a clemency hearing in Nashville. The board recommended that Jelly Roll’s criminal record be cleared, with one of the seven members recusing themselves. Nashville Sheriff Daron Hall advocated for the singer at the hearing.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee will now review the recommendation. Jelly Roll’s past crimes include robbery and drug possession, as he was in and out of jail from the age of 14 to 25. The singer told Joe Rogan in a 2023 interview that he was charged as an adult at age 16 for an armed robbery, adding, “I regret it every day of my life.”
Jelly Roll’s conviction has affected his ability to travel to other countries. He reportedly told the parole board that he hoped to travel to Canada to perform, explaining that he’s “looking to take my message of redemption through the power of music and faith through the rest of the world.”
“This was incredible,” Jelly Roll reportedly said of the board’s decision. “I pray this goes through. But today was special for me, regardless.”

The Singer Opened Up About His ‘Second Chance’
Jelly Roll recently told Fox News that his farm in Nashville has kept him “on track” through his success, adding, “I think it really does in a real way represent what a second chance can really do. But also the reality of getting to that point, too.”
He admitted that “there can still be a real dark corner between my ears at times,” but shared, “Ultimately, the farm is someplace that I find a lot of peace in — that space and separation — getting out there and just walking. It’s made a big difference for me on a lot of levels.”
Jelly Roll told the outlet in 2023 that his past experiences, including his incarceration, “empowered me” and “gave me my voice,” adding, “It taught me a lot about overcoming. It taught me a lot about changing and the ability to change.”
Currently, Jelly Roll serves as the Artist in Residence on American Idol Season 23, mentoring this year’s contestants. He told Fox News that the position has been “rewarding,” calling himself a “proud parent.”
