The Voice coach Ariana Grande shut down new album rumors in a recent question and answer session. The singer admitted that she hasn’t worked on new music in the R.E.M. Beauty YouTube video. Prior to her statement, fans speculated that she would be releasing an album in the near future.

Ariana Grande Admits That She Hasn’t Worked On an Album Since Positions

On May 12, Ariana Grande answered fan submitted questions on her makeup brand’s YouTube channel. While most of the questions were about the brand, Grande also branched out to discuss her music. Before touching on this topic, the popstar admitted that she was nervous, but wanted to remain fully transparent and honest with her fans. She then confirmed that there is no new music on the rise.

“The truth is, I have not begun an album. I know I hear through the grapevine that you have a lot of theories and expectations in that department, but after Positions, [I] was not ready to start another album yet,” Grande said.

She then went on to explain the other major reason behind her decision. Grande noted that she began preparing for the role of Glinda in Wicked as soon as she heard murmurs of an upcoming audition.

“I went into full preparation mode while I was also shooting The Voice,” Grande said. “I just wanted to be prepared for when the call came, I had no idea when it was coming, but I was just like, I want to be ready to go in.”

Even though she had been a longtime fan of the Broadway musical, she wanted to ensure that she was in the best condition possible for the audition. As for now, she is focusing her time on the role and noting that her “hands are quite full.”

The Reason Fans Believed New Music Would Arrive Soon

Grande revealed that she was taking a break from music while working as a coach on The Voice. During this time, she noted her desire to venture into “new versions of storytelling” with her R.E.M. Beauty launch. Even with this September 2021 announcement, fans speculated that the popstar was working on her next power move.

Ahead of the question and answer video, fans speculated that Grande was working on new music on top of her preparation for Wicked. Multiple fan based Twitter accounts shared that the singer was seen registering multiple tracks into the ASCAP music licensing program. They saw this as a huge indicator that new music was on the rise because the singer was previously seen registering new tracks ahead of an upcoming release.

Since Grande has openly admitted that she has a lot on her plate, I don’t expect her to return to The Voice. Even though this coach was a fan favorite, it’s possible her schedule won’t permit enough time for filming. At this time, The Voice coaches for season 22 have yet to be announced.
