‘The Voice’ Kicks Off The Live Cross Battles In Epic Fashion

Reading Time: 5 minutes

We’re adding a twist to The Voice tonight because there’s a new kind of battle round. Similar to the knockout rounds, the cross-battles includes two artists going head to head and performing two different songs. However, this time it involves artists from different teams and not the same one. So how does the show choose who moves on to the next round if it’s not a coach picking their favorite? The fans will tell all! After the show, voting opened to let us know who will be moving on in the competition, and we even had our own voting happen on the Talent Recap Instagram stories (check it out!). So how did it go? Let’s break down tonight’s battles.

Kim Cherry (Team Blake) vs Betsy Ade (Team Kelly)

What a way to start off the show! These two were paired together because they both are unique artists. Kim performed to Poison and showcased her incredible rapping skills while Betsy performed to You Oughta Know. Kim’s coach Blake said that Kim should win this battle because the show has never had anyone like her before, not to mention he believes her vocals are incredible. While Kelly, Betsy’s coach, said that she is so captivating when she performs and feels like she’s a stand out in the competition. Adam was definitely on team Betsy while John didn’t take a side but congratulated them both on a job well done. Our talent recap family voted that Kim would probably take the lead on this one, but we’ll see if that happens!

Mari (Team Adam) vs Selkii (Team Blake)

With Mari singing My My My and Team Blake’s Selkii performing to Torn, this was another incredible performance on both sides. Adam said he felt that Mari was able to bring in all the viewers in her performance while Blake said that Selkii was the real deal because she’s not only a singer but also a songwriter. Their fellow coaches, John and Kelly seemed to go with Mari but our Talent Recap family was almost split down the middle with this one with Mari slightly taking the lead!

Lisa Ramey (Team John) vs Karen Galera (Team Kelly)

With Team John’s Lisa performing to It Hurts So Bad and Team Kelly’s Karen performing to Unfaithful, these two had completely different performances. John commended Lisa on having a fierce performance while Kelly said that Karen was captivating. Adam and Blake were able to agree on something for once and also felt like Lisa took the lead on this particular battle with Adam even saying this was her best performance. The votes from our Talent Recap family were split down the middle and tied at 50/50. We’ll see who wins tomorrow!

Matthew Johnson (Team Kelly) vs Domenic Haynes (Team Adam)

This was the hardest battle of the night because both artists were incredible. With Matthew singing Who’s Loving You and Domenic singing Damn Your Eyes, the judges had a hard time choosing a favorite. Kelly said that Matthew was flawless and she loves watching him perform, while Adam campaigned hard for Domenic saying that he is one of the most honest, raw & powerful singers that the show has ever had. While the judges seemed conflicted with choosing a winner, our Talent Recap family leaned more towards Domenic so we’ll see if he takes the lead tomorrow night.

Presley Tennant (Team Kelly) vs Kayslin Victoria (Team John)

Two sixteen-year-old female singers and both were flawless. How are we supposed to choose a winner? Presley wowed the judges with her powerful performance of Love On the Brain and Kayslin performed to Stay. Kelly was so taken aback by Presley’s performance and called it the best she’s had on the show. John said that Kayslin sounded so confident and clear. Adam referenced to Presley being the surprise o the night and said that he was blown away by her but didn’t want to choose a winner because he loved them both. According to our fans, it looks like Presley might take the win tomorrow!

Celia Babini (Team Adam) vs Oliv Blu (Team Blake)

Another Adam vs Blake battle, which happened a lot this episode! With Celia performing to A Thousand Years and Oliv performing to Gravity, both artists had similar vibes in their vocals. Adam said that Celia is so much bigger than this once performance and needs to move on in the competition, while Blake said that this was Oliv’s best performance and he believes she just jumped on the radar. John leaned more towards Oliv but Kelly was split down the middle and hinted that she may steal one of them in tomorrow night’s episode. Our Talent Recap voted Celia as the winner so we’ll see if that happens!

Dexter Roberts (Team Blake) vs Andrew Jannakos (Team Adam)

Two country artists going head to head and they happen to be on the frienemies teams- Blake and Adam. With Dexter performing to Believe and Andrew performing to Yours, Kelly describes it best when she says Dexter is old country and Andrew is a new country. Blake said that Dexter did justice to this sacred country song while Adam said that Andrew was incredible and deserves to stay. With the coaches split on this decision, the talent recap fans were in agreement that Andrew should take the win on this one.

Maelyn Jarmon (Team John) vs Rod Stokes (Team Adam)

With these two artists having completely different styles, it’s hard to know which one takes the lead. Maelyn performed to Mad World, while Rod performed to How Am I Supposed to Live Without You. John was blown away by Maelyn’s range and control, while Adam said he was thrilled to have Rod on his team and believes he should move on in the competition. The Talent Recap votes are in and it’s very clear that Maelyn will probably take the lead on this one.
