‘The Masked Singer’ Recap: McTerrier Unmasked in Dramatic Season 7 Premiere
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Wednesday’s The Masked Singer Season 7 premiere will go down in history as the most dramatic episode yet. Not only did McTerrier almost accidentally reveal his identity, but Firefly had a medical incident and had to stop performing.
At the end of the night, McTerrier ended up being unmasked anyway, as he was eliminated. The contestant was revealed to be pastry chef Duff Goldman, who starred in the Food Network series Ace of Cakes. We’ll have to wait a little longer for the much-anticipated Rudy Giuliani reveal.
McTerrier Is Unmasked in ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 7 Premiere
Wednesday’s first episode featured contestants from the teams Good, Bad, and Cuddly. McTerrier was one contestant representing Team Cuddly. He appeared as a Scottish terrier in a kilt. In his clue package and when talking to the judges, he spoke in a fake Scottish accent.
McTerrier performed “Working for the Weekend” by Loverboy. He started off playing the drums before getting up and moving around the stage. The judges remarked that he didn’t seem to be able to see where he was going. However, he made it through the performance without any slip-ups.
It was only after the performance that he lost his balance, and his mask fell off, nearly revealing his identity to everyone. He managed to turn away and hide his face, asking, “What do I do?” A crew member ended up running out to help him put his mask back on.
We didn’t have to wait much longer to find out that it was Duff Goldman under the mask when he was eliminated. None of the judges guessed correctly, instead thinking he was everyone from Mike Myers to Ewan McGregor. Duff revealed that he wanted to do the show for his daughter, who just turned one year old.

Firefly Has to Restart Performance After Coughing Fit
Another member of Team Good, Firefly, started their performance off strong. They looked amazing in a light-up costume, and they showed off a husky, soulful voice on a cover of “Ain’t Nobody” by Chaka Khan. However, part of the way through the performance, Firefly started coughing uncontrollably.
“Somebody needs to help her!” judge Nicole Scherzinger shouted when she noticed something was wrong. Ken Jeong chimed in to ask a medic to come out. Firefly ended up leaving the stage, and Team Bad contestant Ram started their performance.
Firefly ended up returning to the stage later in the episode to finish the performance. This time, they got through the song without a hitch. The judges stood on their desks afterward, and Robin Thicke declared it the best performance of the night.
The judges guessed that Firefly might be everyone from Alicia Keys to Monica. Whoever is under that mask, they just became a frontrunner for Season 7.
Rudy Giuliani Was Not Unmasked in This Episode
One thing we totally expected to happen in the Season 7 premiere was for Rudy Giuliani to be unmasked. Ken Jeong reportedly walked off the stage when the former politician was unmasked during filming. According to reports, the incident occurred during filming of the first episode.
Whether those reports were inaccurate or the show just changed the order around, Giuliani was not unmasked during Wednesday’s episode. Maybe the show is trying to keep us on our toes by placing the reveal later in the season.
In addition to Firefly, we’ll also be keeping our eyes on Thingamabob, who showed off a strong voice in a cover of “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi. The tall contestant shared that they grew up with rock music, and wants their voice to be the biggest clue to their identity. Guesses included James Hetfield of Metallica and WWE star Chris Jericho.
The next episode of The Masked Singer Season 7 will air next Wednesday night on FOX.
