America’s Got Talent Season 20 premiered on Tuesday night, as the first group of auditioning acts took the stage for their chance to impress the judges. The episode featured the return of former AGT judge Mel B, and two lucky acts earned the Golden Buzzer.
Two Acts Earn Golden Buzzers in AGT Season 20 Premiere
The first Golden Buzzer of the night went to a Brazilian group called LightWire, who delivered an electrifying light-up performance that combined colorful projections with illuminated costumes, paying tribute to the beauty of the Amazon. It was hard to tell where the flat images ended and the real people began.
Simon Cowell called it “one of the most beautiful, stunning acts” he’s seen across the entire series. He was so impressed, he decided to press the Golden Buzzer, sending LightWire straight through to the Season 20 live shows.
Later in the show, singer Jourdan Blue earned yet another Golden Buzzer. Jourdan shared that he works as a street performer in New Orleans to support his girlfriend and young son. For his audition, he performed “Breakeven” by The Script.
Jourdan showed off a soulful voice, bringing powerful emotion to the song cover. The judges were in awe, and audience members were on their feet while Jourdan was still singing. Sofia Vergara told Jourdan that she fell in love with him. Mel B said it felt like she was hearing the song for the first time.
Howie Mandel was particularly impressed by Jourdan’s performance. He said it was “just the beginning” for him, choosing to press the Golden Buzzer and send the talented singer straight into the Season 20 live shows.
Who Else Impressed the Judges?
The two Golden Buzzer acts weren’t the only auditions who impressed the AGT judges during Tuesday’s Season 20 premiere. Magician Zak Mirz also made an impression with his act, which had to do with his young daughter. Howie Mandel said he raised the bar for magicians on the show.
Dance group Team Recycled also wowed the panel with their performance, part of which took place in the audience. Mandel called it “perfect for Season 20.” However, Mel B criticized some of the choreography. It didn’t matter, because the other three judges voted “yes” to sending them through.
Elsewhere in the episode, rapper Micah Palace had everyone dancing with his original song “No Sabo,” while shocking contortionist ‘Lastic Boy had them covering their eyes. Meanwhile, aerial duo Jacqueline & Wagner incorporated roller skates into their high-flying routine, prompting Mel B to say she was on “the edge of my seat.”

Mel B Returns, Continues Feud with Simon Cowell
Tuesday’s AGT premiere also featured the return of judge Mel B, who is replacing Heidi Klum at the table. The former Spice Girls star wasted no time picking up her playful feud with fellow judge Simon Cowell.
During Eric Booker’s audition at the start of the show, the performer showed off his chugging skills. He even gave the judges samples of what he was chugging — pickle juice, hot dog water, creamed corn, and hot sauce. After Mel B hit her red buzzer for the act, Cowell called her “grumpy.”
When Eric was about to chug the hot sauce, Cowell was the only judge who hadn’t hit his red buzzer. Despite his attempts to block her, Mel B hit the buzzer for him. Cowell told Eric that he would have voted “yes” to sending him through.
