The RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise is expanding globally once more. The very first season of Drag Race Italia will be coming to Discovery+ and WOW Presents Plus in November 2021. World of Wonder is producing the series, which has already generated a ton of buzz online.
After the success of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, and the flop that is Canada’s Drag Race, fans are anxiously waiting for Drag Race Italia. The series has also expanded to Drag Race Thailand, Chile’s The Switch Drag Race, Drag Race Holland, Drag Race Down Under, and Drag Race España. RuPaul is bringing home some serious bank from all of these spinoff shows. This includes RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6 currently airing on Paramount+.
‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Announces a New Spinoff, ‘Drag Race Italia’
A single promotional image was posted on Twitter to mark the Drag Race Italia announcement. The logo sits in front of a coliseum with the iconic racing flags sticking out of it. An Instagram account that was just started for Drag Race Italia names Priscilla, Tommaso Zorzi, and Chiara Francini as judges. Even though the judges have been chosen, fans are hoping that a RuPaul’s Drag Race winner will have a role in Drag Race Italia.
Season 10 winner Aquaria tweeted: “i know i have hardly any qualifications and zero fluency, but can yall swap me out as a judge of drag race italy cuz….”
After tweeting this, one fan created a petition to get Aquaria to replace one of the judges on the show. Aquaria, a fashion queen from New York, is of Italian descent. Fans feel like it would make sense for her to be a part of this show. Season 11 RuPaul’s Drag Race runner-up Brooke Lynne Hytes is a judge on Canada’s Drag Race. She is from Ontario and a major force to be reckoned with.
Others said they want Lady Gaga to join Drag Race Italia as a judge. Gaga did surprise the queens on Season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race with a workroom entrance. It left all of the queens shook and in tears. She served as a guest judge for the runway challenge where the queens had to recreate some of her iconic looks. It would be awesome to see Gaga as a permanent Drag Race Italia judge, but Mother Monster might be a little busy preparing for her Chromatica Ball Tour.
