Wedding bells might be ringing for Season 16 American Idol winner Maddie Poppe and her boyfriend Caleb Lee Hutchinson. On Sunday night, Maddie tweeted her desire to marry Caleb, and it was for the cutest reason.
Maddie had spent the evening live-tweeting last night’s new episode of American Idol, and encouraging viewers to vote for their favorite singer (Grace Leer vs. Lauren Mascitti) to make it into the Top 20.
Maddie Poppe Wants To Marry Caleb Lee Hutchinson
Late Sunday night, Maddie tweeted, “It’s 1am and Caleb is making me waffles. I will marry this man.” We love her logic — late-night waffles are an excellent reason to marry someone.

Maddie’s fans seemed to agree, calling them “couple goals” and saying, “If I don’t have a relationship like urs and Caleb’s I don’t want it.” One fan also pointed out how lucky they are to have each other as quarantine buddies during the pandemic.
For those who don’t know, Maddie and Caleb met when they were both competing on American Idol 2018. They ended up being the winner and runner-up, and revealed they were dating in the finale. Since then, they’ve been one of our favorite couples.
Maddie Says Caleb Is ‘The One’
Maddie may have been joking about marrying Caleb over a plate of waffles, but she certainly seems to think they’ll be together forever. In an interview last year, she confirmed that she sees Caleb as “The One.”

She added that Caleb is her “best friend,” and that they were friends before they started dating. “I think that’s what’s so awesome about it, is … we were just best friends who were hanging out,” she said. “And then we were like, ‘Hey, we get along pretty good. This might work out.’”
Another Idol couple, Gabby Barrett and Cade Foehner, beat Maddie and Caleb to the altar last year. If they do get married, we vote for having waffles at the wedding.
