Reading Time: 2 minutes
Jennifer Hudson’s Daytime talk show is coming this fall. The Jennifer Hudson Show will launch on Fox Television Stations. With Ellen DeGeneres ending her two decade long talk show career, Hudson’s new show is poised to become a flagship IP for Warner Bros Studios.
The daytime talk show space continues to get crowded. Hudson will join fellow American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson, as well as Nick Cannon and Sherri Shepherd in the daytime genre.
The Jennifer Hudson Show comes from Telepictures productions, the same production company behind The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The Oscar winner’s test show was shot last fall on the Ellen stage. Warner Bros Studios is betting big on the singer as the same producers and show-runner from Ellen helped create Hudson’s new show and shopped it around to other stations.
Hudson’s new show is getting a major push as it is also set to launch on Hearst Television. Additional station groups will carry The Jennifer Hudson Show, making up to more than 60% of the country.
The Grammy award winner has been in the entertainment industry for close to 20 years. Now she is ready to show a different side to whom audiences have come to love. The format of the show is being kept under-wraps, but Hudson is sure to introduce something new to daytime television, much like how Clarkson brought us her famous Kellyoke.
Jennifer Hudson’s Daytime Talk Show
Hudson is used to standing out in competitions. The singer dominated during her time on American Idol. When it was time for her to shine during the Best Supporting Actress Oscar race in 2007, she came out on top. Hudson is entering a new competition now.
The world of daytime TV is tough. Most new shows end after two seasons. It is not unusual for producers to look for the next big hit once a main staple such as DeGeneres finishes her run. We saw this when Oprah Winfrey decided to end her popular talk show.
While Clarkson’s show is taking over DeGeneres’s time slot, news of Hudson’s show being backed by so many of the people who brought us Ellen, seems to indicate the two Idol stars will face-off.
