During the Season 19 American Idol auditions, Katy Perry bought the sequined jacket off of Ryan Romano’s back to gift to her dad. Ryan’s jacket had a big night out at the American Idol finale last night after Perry’s dad, Keith Hudson, was spotted in the audience wearing it.
Ryan Romano Thanks Katy Perry For Changing His Life By Buying His Jacket on ‘American Idol’
Perry posted a video on her Instagram story of her dad sitting in the audience with the sequins shining underneath the lights. The excitement continued for Ryan during finale night when American Idol reposted Perry’s video on Instagram and tagged him to give him credit for his jacket.
Perry also posted a second video during one of the commercial breaks where she went to visit her dad in the audience. Again, Ryan freaked out that his jacket got so much air time. His joy could be felt through the screen.
Ryan is inspired by music legend Elton John. The sequined checkerboard jacket was tailored specifically for him. The second Perry saw the jacket at the audition, she knew her father had to have it. The 16-year-old left the auditions $400 richer and jacketless. He knew his jacket was in good hands.
Everything came full circle when he got to see his jacket live on television during the finale. In the background of his Instagram videos, fans could also hear Ryan’s dad excitedly making comments about the jacket.
Ryan Now Runs His Own Small Business
Perry was Ryan’s first customer on American Idol. Now he has turned his first jacket sale into a small business! You can purchase a Ryan Romano Signature-Series Sequin Jacket on Depop. Ryan has proved to be quite the businessman. He’s promised customers that even if an item is out of stock, you can still message him to request a jacket.
“I will FOREVER be honored to have had a role in this show! What started as a transaction between @katyperry and I (as I sold my sequin jacket to Katy for her dad!) has blossomed into my very own sequin jacket line,” Ryan wrote on Instagram.
He also thanked American Idol for giving him the opportunity and airing his audition. After all of the buzz, it is clear that someone needs to start a petition to get Ryan a job on the wardrobe team for next season.
“@AmericanIdol, you’ve given me so much more than I had ever thought I’d have a year ago,” he wrote on Instagram. “I love you guys, and I hope more than anything that I can earn the opportunity to work with you again. Thank you.”
