During his appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Beckham said he hasn’t had a chance to celebrate his win yet, but he was looking forward to having time to go fishing with his family. He also got an invitation to go fishing from judge Luke Bryan during the finale.
Seacrest, meanwhile, revealed what he was thinking when he read that Beckham was the winner. He said he was looking at both Beckham and Spence, trying not to look at either of them too much so as not to give away the results.
Beckham said he was “at peace with it,” no matter who won the show. He shared that he would have been happy if Spence or third-place singer Grace Kinstler won. He added, “It just felt good to be up there standing with Willie.”
Kelly Ripa revealed that Beckham’s win marks the first time in American Idol history that the winner’s single was written by the contestant. Beckham was humble about the success his song “23” has had, saying it “did pretty good.”
