Dancing with the Stars contestant Cody Rigsby announced in an Instagram video that he has contracted COVID-19. The Peloton instructor appeared virtually during this week’s live show after his partner Cheryl Burke tested positive. In an unprecedented turn of events, the show will allow Rigsby and Burke to perform virtually and individually.
The two were slated to perform a jazz dance this week. Because partners do not necessarily need to touch for their dance to be jazz, they will be allowed to perform separately from home.
“We will be doing it from the comfort of our own home,” Burke told Good Morning America on Friday. “Look at that, I’ve turned our living room into a ballroom.”
Cody Rigsby Shares That He Tested Positive for COVID
Rigsby contracted COVID for the first time back in February but made a full recovery. He shared the symptoms he has been experiencing during his second bout with the virus. His fellow Dancing with the Stars contests Olivia Jade, The Miz, Jimmie Allen, Matt James, and Amanda Kloots all commented on the post to send their well wishes. Burke commented, “Sending you so much love,” with a heart emoji.
“I have tested positive for COVID again, the second time this year,” he said. “I right now have really mild symptoms: congestion, little bit of a headache, cough — but in comparison to when I had Covid earlier this year, it is night and day, so that must be the vaccine and the antibodies working. So we’re super grateful for that. As far as my fate on Dancing With the Stars, we are still trying to figure that out right now, so please be patient with that answer.”
Burke posted a video on Sunday sharing her diagnosis with her followers. She announced that she would be entering a mandatory 10-day quarantine. Rigsby and Burke were not in the Dancing with the Stars ballroom during Monday night’s show. The judges scored them based on their rehearsal footage before Burke tested positive. They remained in the competition, with many hoping Rigsyby would be able to rehearse with a sub partner this week.
“To properly rest and recover as well as avoid exposing others, I will be taking a break in the coming days,” Rigsby captioned his post. “I appreciate all your support and I’ll be back as soon as I am ready.”
Dancing with the Stars posted a photo of the couple on Instagram and are sending “positive thoughts” to Rigsby. The show did not officially announce what will happen to their standing in the competition. The next live show is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 4, and all of the other couples have returned to the studio to practice for their Britney Night dances.
