The Voice Season 27 Coaches Talk About Their Histories
“We’re all musicians for a living now,” Legend said to kick off the conversation, before asking his fellow coaches, “When did you figure out this is what you wanted to do, for real?”
Ballerini shared a story that involves former The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson, explaining that she attended a concert on Clarkson’s Behind These Hazel Eyes Tour. During the show, Clarkson’s eyes appeared on a screen. As Ballerini was thinking about whether she wanted to pursue music as a career, the eyes winked.
“And in my soul, I really believe that Kelly Clarkson told me I was supposed to move to Nashville,” Ballerini said, adding that she’s since told Clarkson about this. “And she’s weirdly kind of been a consistent throughout my whole career now. So she started it for me.”
Meanwhile, Legend shared that he grew up singing in church, and realized that he loved performing for people, adding, “I just knew that I loved being on stage and singing in front of people. And I knew that from, like, age 7.”
