American Idol Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina had some exciting news to share with her fans his week — she’s pregnant! Alaina and her husband, Cam Arnold, are currently expecting their first child together.
Lauren Alaina Is Pregnant with Her First Child
Alaina confirmed the news of her pregnancy to People earlier this week, sharing that it came as a surprise, since the couple wasn’t planning to try for a baby until the end of this year. After losing her father last year, Alaina called the pregnancy an “unexpected blessing.”
“I do think that my dad passed away and got up in heaven and was like, ‘Hey, we got to work something out down there to send the family something good,'” she said. “We obviously still talk about and are dealing with the grief of my dad, but this baby has healed a lot of that for us … like it’s a little piece of my dad that will live on.”
The couple, who tied the knot last February, isn’t ready to share the baby’s sex yet, but they do have a name picked out — and it honors a family member. Alaina revealed in her new music video for the song “Those Kind of Women” that she’s due this summer.
“When we shot the video, I barely had a bump. So I actually put a [fake] bump over my pregnant bump to make it bigger so that people knew what was happening visually,” Alaina told People. “So, I wore a baby bump for my music video, which is hilarious. Now that it’s coming out, I look pretty close to what it looks like in the video.”
Alaina Spoke to Kelly Clarkson About Her Pregnancy
Alaina was a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week, as she debuted her baby bump and talked about her experience of pregnancy so far. The country singer shared that she was 22 weeks in and thankfully hadn’t felt sick.
Alaina said that it was “a long time to hide a pregnancy,” adding that she was “very excited for people to know about this.” She shared that she didn’t know she was pregnant when she recorded the song “Those Kind of Women,” which is about “the women who raised me.”
“I recorded the song and mastered the song, and when I was getting the master back, I had found out that I was pregnant. And no one knew except me and my husband, and I’m sobbing listening to the song,” Alaina recalled.
The singer is heading out on tour while pregnant, as she joins Rascal Flatts in February. Alaina shared that she’ll be touring until she’s at 34 weeks. She joked that the shoes she wore on Clarkson’s show were “the last pair of high heels I will ever wear.”
