‘American Idol’ Judges Prepare for Most “Combative” Season Yet
Reading Time: 3 minutes
With only a few days left until the premiere of American Idol‘s landmark season 20 the celebrity judges have shared that the auditions this season features disagreements between the three stars. This upcoming season is their fifth time judging on the panel together. While we’ve seen them get along in the past (for the most part) they’ve shared that this season is a bit different. Since they’ve been working together for so long, they’re able to sway another with their viewpoint.
“I would say that we’re more combative this season than ever but it’s not that we don’t love and respect each other, we just see so much talent after five seasons that we’re like all pushing for the best stuff,” Katy Perry said.
During the audition talk, Luke Bryan shared that all three of them typically write notes during the auditions. Sometimes their notes change throughout an audition if the person begins with a few bad notes.
In a shared clip, Perry looks over at Bryan’s notepad and immediately calls him out for writing “no” for the singer right in front of them. Her acknowledgement of the note leads to them both expressing their opinions.
When asked if Perry is able to sway Bryan easily, he states that she gives him a certain look that makes him agree with her. Perry claims that the girl auditioning in the clip sang a great run after the clip cut off so she threw Bryan’s paper off the desk. The pop singer joked and said Bryan could have been scared of her after that. They all agreed that Perry is able to strong arm the decision, even though Lionel Richie tells Bryan to stand up for himself.
On top of The Show, The Judges Are Performing in Las Vegas
On top of American Idol, all three judges currently have residencies in Las Vegas. Richie is performing at the Wynn, while Perry and Bryan are performing at the Resorts World Theatre. When Perry isn’t performing, Bryan is. The judges shared that they technically reside in the same suite during their appearances since they’re both headlining at the same resort. Bryan made it clear to state that it’s more of a hotel room hand off situation, the American Idol judges are never in the suite at the same time.
It’s no secret that Perry has history when it comes to Las Vegas. Her parents met and got married in the city, her aunt was a topless showgirl and her dad was a chauffeur. Perry knew that the stars would align for her to perform in the city at some point, but she didn’t know she would be performing at the hotel her aunt used to work at. The pop singer shared that the coincidences are like a funny video game.
