Following the premiere of So You Think You Can Dance, JoJo Siwa appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show. This television judge rose to fame as part of the popular series, Dance Moms and has since become a household name from Nickelodeon and Dancing With the Stars.

Siwa began dancing at a young age as part of her mothers dance studio and later appeared on Dance Moms at nine years old. Since she was always interested in the world of dance, she grew up loving So You Think You Can Dance.

JoJo Siwa’s New Role is a Full Circle Moment For Her

Siwa left her debut series in 2016 after being assigned a tough ballet. Instead of returning for the rest of the reality season, the dancer was given the opportunity to work with Nickelodeon. This opportunity opened a ton of doors for Siwa, but led to her exploration of other talents.

“[So You Think You Can Dance] It’s fun because I left the dance world for a long time and I finally got back in it when I did Dancing With the Stars and it just felt so good to do that and then actually regain some dance in my life,” she said. “Now to be apart of So You Think [You Can Dance] is just unreal.”

The professional dancer sits on the dance judging panel alongside show alum Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Matthew Morrison. The each of the new judges bring something different to the table due to their diverse backgrounds. TWitch brings his experience of hip-hop/street dance, while Morrison brings his music theatre background.

Siwa differs from the other judges because she came from a technical dance background. As a judge, she strives to be honest with dancers about their skills, but never mean.

“Being honest on somebody and being hard on somebody if they can be better in that capacity, that’s a different story than being straight up harsh,” she said.

New episodes of So You Think You Can Dance premiere on FOX on Wednesdays at 8/9 c. The show’s highly anticipated season 17 features skilled dancers between the ages of 18 and 30 performing in several styles including contemporary, tap, hip-hop, and more.
