Probably the most famous round on The X Factor UK is the dreaded Six Chair Challenge. That’s when the contestants play a cruel game of musical chairs in order to gain a spot in the Judge’s House round. This year they’ve added a new twist: a golden buzzer…just like on The Got Talents.

Simon’s Girls

First up were Simon’s girls, or in other words all the young girls competing for a spot with Simon as the ultimate judge. I mean, isn’t he always? Some of these performances were just plain terrible. In spite of that, some of these singers got seats. I think the main reason being so they could immediately lose them. The standouts were girls who rocked the auditions, namely Maria Laroco and Scarlett Lee. The rest were, frankly, forgettable. Bella Penfold, (who I thought was awful) got Simon’s Golden Buzzer.

Ayda’s Overs

Because, in general, The X Factor UK is kind of mean, they break up the people over thirty into their own category. So, all these olds got to compete for a spot in the next round. These guys were definitely better than the batch of girls. Ricky John was really good singing Otis Reading and Louis Tomlinson rewards him with a Golden Buzzer. Burgundy Williams was really great in my estimation. The rest were aight.

In truth, I have to say, I found this episode kind of dull. Their crop of singers is nowhere near as good as it was last year. There’s no Grace Davies or Rak-Su amongst these guys.
