Why THIS Country Superstar Is Replacing Kelly Clarkson On ‘The Voice’
Reading Time: 3 minutes
The Battle Rounds are always full of incredible performances on The Voice along with some shocking steals. Season 20 will be a little bit different because coach Kelly Clarkson will be sitting out of the show temporarily. Kelly brought in one of her friends to take her place and you might recognize this country superstar.
Kelly Clarkson Brings In Country Singer To Replace Her On ‘The Voice’
During The Battles, Kelly was feeling a bit under the weather. She stayed home because of this and needed someone to take her place temporarily. She chose to bring in Kelsea Ballerini. Since The Voice is pre-recorded, it is likely that Kelly was sick a few months ago. She has been regularly hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show and has fully recovered.
Kelsea has always been a big fan of Kelly’s and takes inspiration from her. In 2005, Kelsea saw Kelly on tour and knew she wanted to be just like her. Little did she know that one day she would end up touring with Kelly.

“Anyone who knows me knows I have always been a Kelly superfan, but after watching her flawlessly navigate a major tour while taping The Voice and being a wife and momma while never missing a note or a beat AND being kind to everyone and making sure we were all taken care of gave me a whole new lense of respect and love for this woman,” Kelsea wrote on Instagram in 2019.
Kelsea Is Ready To Sit In Kelly’s Chair And Trash Talk Blake
Kelsea posted her excitement on social media about being on The Voice. “When Kelly Clarkson calls and asks you to keep her seat warm, you put all those years of being her super fan to work. Thank you John Legend, Nick Jonas and ole pops Blake Shelton for making me feel like part of the NBC’s The Voice family,” she wrote.
“I’m forever #TeamKelly… see y’all at the battle rounds,” she wrote in another tweet. This is not Kelsea’s first time appearing on The Voice. In Season 15, she served as the fifth coach for six contestants who failed to make it past the Blind Auditions. This special digital series was known as The Comeback Stage. Kelsea came back the following season as a Battle Advisor for Team Kelly.
One thing we have to look forward to is Kelsea joining the other coaches in teaming up on Blake Shelton. “Hey Blake, have I ever told you that you look like my dad?” she jokes in a trailer for The Battles. Kelly and Blake have reignited their rivalry this season and Kelsea will do a good job of keeping it going.

While it is not clear exactly how long Kelly sat out of filming, we do know that she will eventually be back on The Voice this season. Expect to see Kelly appear virtually or periodically through phonecalls while Kelsea steps in for her.
