After finding a hit single on Songland, Kelsea Ballerini has a lot to say about the experience and about the songwriting process as a whole. She has also develped a great relationship with the show’s mentors. And her song “Better Luck Next Time” is in the Top 5 on the iTunes charts already!
“In Harmony” Exclusive
Kelsea talks about how she likes to ease into songwriting sessions. She says you have to get a feel for the room–test the air–before throwing out ideas. She also mentions that she’s a huge OneRepublic and Ryan Tedder fan so she was excited to work with him. Kelsea says she feels “empowered” by these songwriting collaborators.
Shane talked about how if the chemistry and the track feel good, Kelsea moves quickly. He has developed a close, personal friendship with the singer. In fact, he’s written three songs for her (“Get Over Yourself,” “Graveyard,” and “In Between”)! Kelsea and Shane have a “great trust” between each other. He says she makes him feel like he is welcome and part of what she’s working on.
Ryan, on the other hand, starts by saying that he was impressed by Kelsea Ballerini. He compliments her charisma and says she’s “on another level.” They worked well together on the show, so it makes sense there’s a mutual respect there. He seemed to be able to pick up on what she was looking for and make it happen with “Better Luck Next Time.”
“Better Luck Next Time”
Kelsea Ballerini’s new single from Songland is available everywhere now! It is currently at #3 on the iTunes charts. That’s the highest of any song from the show yet! It fits her voice perfectly and rides that line between her usual country route and pop, where she seems to be heading.
A big congratulations to her, Ryan Tedder, and of course Darius Coleman for writing and producing the hit. And it seems like those relationships will continue to lead to more collaborations in the future!
