One thing that was a ballsy move on the part of ABC was to pit the reboot of American Idol against NBC’s juggernaut, The Voice. So, far The Voice has beaten American Idol every Monday BUT things are starting look up for American Idol.

That’s because they were able to maintain and even slightly increase their viewership this week to a 1.6 share or 7.68 million viewers. That means that for the first time since the premiere it hasn’t kept going down. Also, and this is key, it beat The Voice when it came to the coveted 18-34 demo which all advertisers drool over. This in spite of the fact that overall The Voice got a 2.0 share or 10.37 million viewers.

So, what does this all mean? /it means that even though The Voice is attracting a bigger overall audience, American Idol is starting to build an audience and that audience is younger. Older folks might love Blake Shelton but younger kids like Katy Perry I guess. So, as long as this trend continues American Idol should be alright.
