Former One Direction star Harry Styles was apparently spotted in the crowd at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City earlier this week, as the public awaited news of the pope’s election. A photo of Styles was posted on social media.
Harry Styles Spotted in Vatican Crowd for Pope Election
Following Pope Francis’ death last month, a conclave was held by the cardinals in Vatican City to elect his successor. Crowds waited in St. Peter’s Square to see white smoke rising from the Sistine Chapel, signifying that a new pope had been chosen.
The smoke was finally seen on Thursday, as Pope Leo XIV was announced as the first-ever American-born pope. Within the Vatican crowd, fans spotted none other than former One Direction star Harry Styles. A photo posted on X (formerly Twitter) shows what appears to be the 31-year-old singer, sporting facial hair and dark sunglasses.
According to the Independent, Styles’ gray baseball cap featured the phrase, “Techno is My Boyfriend.” The hat, sold by IDEA, has since sold out online. Styles also sported a blue jacket which he was previously seen wearing in London last month.

What Did Fans Say About the Photo?
Fans had plenty of funny things to say about the photo of Harry Styles in Vatican City. As one X user wrote, “they should’ve made him pope.” Someone else joked that Styles has been spotted “everywhere but the studio” lately.
Other fans also joked about the possibility that Pope Leo XIV was waving to Styles when he appeared to greet the crowd on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. Someone else posted a wide shot of the crowd and called it “Where’s Waldo Harry Styles edition.”
Styles has yet to release new music since he put out his third solo album, Harry’s House, in May 2022. The project won Album of the Year at the Grammys, as well as Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
