‘The X Factor UK’s Grace Davies Succeeds After Rumors Network Fixed the Show
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Grace Davies is known for her controversial run in series 14 of The X Factor UK. She was mentored by Sharon Osbourne after being one of the most impressive auditions. Davies audition will be forever remembered because of her original song, “Roots,” which is still popular to this day.
Davies was bound to win, until people thought the network placed her on the series and had already decided she was the winner. Many fans criticized Davies’ time on The X Factor UK because she had previously released a record and had performed with The X Factor alum Olly Murs in the past. Since she had already been successful, many people thought the competition had been “fixed by iTV.”
During her time on the series, she acknowledged fans concerns. She stated that she released a self-released (without a recording contract) EP at 18 years old. At the time of the release she clarified that she didn’t have a manager or record label. Davies also acknowledged that she and Murs were signed to perform at the same private event and he asked her to go on stage with him. Before her friends event she had never met the singer.
After harsh criticism, Davies still went further in the competition, due to her musical gift. In 2017, she finished the series out as runner up to boy band Rak-Su. Rak-Su was mentored by Simon Cowell and was the second group to win following Little Mix. They were also the first boy band to win the original series.
Soon after the series concluded Davies announced that she was offered a record deal. In early 2018, it was confirmed that she signed to Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco Records.
What Has Grace Davies Been Up to Since The X Factor UK?
Immediately after The X Factor UK Davies stayed active on social media while performing and spending time in the studio. In 2019, she made guest appeared alongside Tokio Myers and Stewart Copeland on America’s Got Talent. Soon after, Davies announced that her debut single, “Invisible” would release in late January 2020.
In 2020 she released four singles before dropping her EP, Friends with the Tragic. The EP debuted at No. 52 on the United Kingdom iTunes charts. Even though this EP was successful for the singer, it seems like she stopped working with Syco Records in 2021.
After leaving Syco Records, Davies went on to release six singles making up her second EP “i wonder if you wonder.” This EP includes her original song “Roots” that she performed in her X Factor UK audition.
The singer recently celebrated her 25th birthday and has let fans know that there’s more music to come. She’s currently releasing special live performances of her “i wonder if you wonder” songs on YouTube.
