Scarlett Johansson Opens Up About Her ‘Asteroid City’ Nude Scene

Scarlett Johansson recently opened up about her nude scene in the new movie Asteroid City. The actress remarked that the film’s director Wes Anderson was actually uncomfortable discussing the scene.

In the film, Johansson’s character Midge Campbell is a movie star. After meeting Augie Steenbeck (Jason Schwartzman), Midge mentions that she’s played a nude scene. When asked about the moment, Johansson joked about Anderson’s approach.
“Wes is probably the worst person to talk to about anything like that,” Johansson told Yahoo Entertainment in a recent interview. “He’s already so uncomfortable around that topic.”
The actress said she would “leave it up to your imagination” how the filming of the scene went. She went on to imitate how Anderson dealt with it, saying there was a lot of “throat clearing and hiding his face.”
Asteroid City has a limited release in Los Angeles and New York City starting June 16. It will expand to a wide release on June 23.

Johansson Has Called Onscreen Nudity a ‘Risk’
Johansson previously appeared nude in the 2013 movie Under the Skin, in which she plays an alien character. At the time, the actress said doing nude scenes is a “risk” she has to consider when performing in films.
“You kind of have to weigh the value of the risk you are taking, is this gratuitous?” Johansson said. “Is this a vanity project, or is this an important part of this character’s journey to self discovery … I’m not a provocative person. It’s not like I live to be photographed in the buff or anything like that.”
Johansson also said the nude scenes made her aware of “all the kinds of judgments and all of these things we place on ourselves,” calling it “really challenging” but also “interesting.”
