Reba McEntire was recently a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show. During her appearance on the show, this season’s The Voice Mega Mentor performed a duet with the host to Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.”
Reba McEntire, Jennifer Hudson Duet ‘Respect’
McEntire talked to Hudson about covering Aretha Franklin’s iconic song “Respect” back in the 1980s. She shared that she even got to meet Franklin, saying, “She scared me to death. I wouldn’t even go up and talk to her.”
Hudson, who played Franklin in the 2021 film Respect, joked, “Yeah, that scared me, too.” She went on to tell McEntire that her late mother was a “huge fan” of the country singer, adding that it “means everything to have you here.”
The host asked McEntire if she would sing a duet of “Respect” with her. McEntire wholeheartedly agreed, and the pair launched into a powerhouse performance of the legendary song. Hudson briefly took a break from singing to let the audience know they were getting tickets to see McEntire live at the Hollywood Bowl.

McEntire Is This Season’s Mega Mentor on The Voice
Last month, it was announced that McEntire would be the Mega Mentor on Season 23 of The Voice. She will appear during the Knockout round to help the coaches prepare their artists’ performances. This isn’t McEntire’s first time on the show, as she previously appeared as a Battle Advisor in Season 1.
She also has a connection to coach Kelly Clarkson. McEntire was formerly married to Narvel Blackstock, whose son Brandon Blackstock is Clarkson’s ex-husband. This reportedly caused some tension between Clarkson and McEntire on the show’s set.
McEntire has been suggested to replace coach Blake Shelton, who is leaving the show after this season. However, McEntire is apparently uninterested in the job. She even turned down an offer to be a coach years ago.
