Nicki Minaj is an artist that has always been known for being filled with confidence in the public eye. The rapper recently got candid about her struggles with maintaining her confidence in the public eye.
The queen of rap is back once again. On a recent Carpool Karaoke session with James Corden she proved just how versatile of an artist she is. Fans are impressed to see just how great she is outside of the recording studio. Minaj sang each of her hits with bliss in the segment.
The rapper showed off her personality by speaking in a british accent and creating a freestyle rap on the spot. Fans of the long running talk show segment were quick to say this was one of the best in a while.
Nicki Minaj Reveals Her Anxiety Struggles
Following all the goofiness, she got real about the anxiety struggles she has as such a large artist. Minaj currently uses chewing on ice as a tactic to diminish her anxieties.
While Minaj is always seen as a confident person in the public eye, she noted that fame has paid a toll on this trait. In her younger years, she was filled with confidence, but she now is less confident than before. The rapper expressed that it’s unnatural for a human to be scrutinized the way celebrities are. She thinks that the scrutinization is what led to her decrease in confidence.
“When I first came into the industry, I had this amazing sense of freedom because no one gave a sh*t about what I was doing. I could get away with doing anything and they’d be like ‘oh haha Nicki Minaj’,” she said. “Then it goes from that to the complete opposite where it’s like if I blink my eye wrong they’ll have a story made up about why I blinked my eye that way.”
Minaj expresses that breaks from social media have helped in the long run. She feels peace when the apps aren’t downloaded to her phone. When off of social media, she’s able to spend time doing the things that matter to her with the people that matter to her.
The rapper confirmed that being a mother played a huge role in this new mindset. No matter how bad the scrutinization it magically goes away when she looks at her son. He makes her laugh, smile, and happy overall.
