Kylie Sonique Love Should Have Won the RuPaul’s Monologue Maxi-Challenge
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Kylie Sonique Love told the genuine story about how she became a queen in this week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. Being super feminine made her get in trouble in her younger years, but eventually she found her place in the drag world where she was celebrated. She connected deeply with the judges when telling a heartfelt story about her first experiences, yet she was not the winner of the round.
When the coaches were training for The Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent Monologue maxi-challenge, they met one on one with each queen. First up for the coaching was Ra’Jah O’Hara. The coaches gave the queen good advice on how to connect with the audience better. The judges said O’Hara was lost in their book and instead needed to look up and connect.
After O’Hara’s coaching session came along Kylie Sonique Love, who told a passionate story about her first experience with drag. This queen had never told a story in front of an audience before either, but performed a lot better compared to O’Hara.
Kylie Sonique Love Premieres Drag Origin Story
Love kept eye contact with the judges for the entire story. She was expressive, told a great story about her drag journey, and the self love that came from it. Although this story was very moving, there was still a long way to go for this queen to win the challenge.
The judges suggested that the main point of the story should be shared at the beginning as opposed to the end. The judges criticized that the beginning of the story and end of the story person shouldn’t resemble each other.
With this great advice, Love went on to tell an even more heartfelt version of this story. She did so well in this performance that it was hard to remember she hadn’t done it before. Even though Love did not win this challenge, she definitely told the best story of the night. The judges called her a naturally born storyteller after this performance.
