Why Gwen Stefani Called Her Romance with Blake Shelton ‘Inconceivable’

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been together for almost a decade, but there was a time when Stefani described their romance as “inconceivable,” considering their differing career paths. She admitted that she didn’t even know Shelton existed before The Voice.

An interview recently resurfaced featuring Gwen Stefani talking to Seth Meyers about winning a 2020 CMT Award for her duet with Shelton, “Nobody But You.” At the time, the couple had been dating for about five years.
The No Doubt star admitted that she was “shocked” to be singing country music, sharing, “I also think about this a lot; I love to play this game with myself where I picture myself in my Voice chair, right? Because I didn’t know Blake Shelton existed before I went on that show.”
Stefani said it was “inconceivable that we would even know each other and be friends, let alone do music together.” She added, “But at the same time, we have so many things that come together, and we’re the same even with music.”Â
Stefani and Shelton first met in 2014 when they were both coaches on The Voice. The following year, both singers went through divorces from their previous spouses. In November 2015, they confirmed they were dating. The couple tied the knot in 2021.

Shelton Says Their Relationship ‘Still Feels New’
Stefani and Shelton have been together for almost 10 years, but it doesn’t feel like that long to Shelton. Earlier this year, the country star told People that his relationship with Stefani “still feels new,” adding, “I feel like that might be the key to happiness, is that it feels just as exciting and new and happy.”
“Some of the things that we talk about, we’re to the point in our relationship that it’s like, ‘Oh, remember what happened…’ and you realize, ‘Oh my God, that was 8 years ago!'” Shelton told the outlet. “It’s like, how did this happen so quickly?”
The couple is still recording duets together. They released the track “Purple Irises” on Stefani’s 2024 album Bouquet, as well as “Hangin’ On” as part of Shelton’s latest album For Recreational Use Only.
