Kelly Clarkson recently opened up in an exclusive interview about her weight loss journey over the past couple of years. The singer and daytime talk show host discussed the lifestyle changes that have helped her drop weight.


Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About Losing Weight

Clarkson has dropped weight over the past years thanks to her diet and exercise changes, as she explains in a recent interview. In early 2023, the singer and host of The Kelly Clarkson Show, relocated to New York City with her hit daytime talk show. Clarkson told the publication she has “dropped weight” as part of an overall push to improve her health and wellness.

“Walking in the city is quite the workout. I’m really into infrared saunas right now, and I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down,” Clarkson said.

As for her diet, Clarkson isn’t following any extreme plans, sharing that she eats a “healthy mix” of foods.


“I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor, a couple years I didn’t. And 90% of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world!” Clarkson said.

Although fans have seen a change in Clarkson’s body, the singer admits she’s not perfect when it comes to sticking to the lifestyle.

“But I still splurge. The other night I had a frozen yogurt with my daughter, and it was magical,” the Grammy winner added about allowing herself treats as well.


Kelly Clarkson Was Previously Focusing on Health, Not Weight Loss

Clarkson has previously spoken about experiencing weight loss as a byproduct of addressing thyroid and autoimmune issues. She changed her diet to treat those health concerns and ended up losing about 37 pounds.

“I know the industry loves the weight gone, but for me it wasn’t really the weight,” Clarkson said. “For me it was a health thing.”

The singer said she decided to alter her lifestyle after consulting with a nutritionist due to feeling exhausted and sluggish. Her new eating habits helped resolve those symptoms.

During a November 2022 appearance on her talk show with Jenna Bush Hager, Clarkson emphasized her balanced approach to health and body image. She gave Bush Hager a high-five after bonding over struggles with weight, joking “I’ve had many stages.”

Clarkson stressed the importance of enjoying life’s indulgences in moderation. Her commitment to overall well-being shines through as she sustains a regimen focused on feeling her best, not achieving an ideal weight.
