Kelly Clarkson Powered Through The BBMAs With Appendicitis
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Fans already loved Kelly Clarkson’s hosting at the BBMAs this week, and that was before we learned that she was suffering from appendicitis at the time. As if we needed any more evidence that she’s a total badass!
According to Entertainment Tonight, Kelly had been experiencing pain from the condition all week, but didn’t have surgery to remove the appendix until Thursday morning. As Jarett Weiselman pointed out on Twitter, Kelly gave two amazing musical performances Wednesday night at the Billboard Music Awards, in addition to emceeing the show. “How could you do anything BUT STAN?!?” he wondered.
Kelly responded that she “may or mat not have broken down in tears after the show from pain,” adding that she flew home right after the event. She thanked Cedars-Sinai, saying the surgery went well, and that she’s “feeling awesome now.” She included the perfect hashtag, #TheShowMustGoOn.
And Kelly won’t be down for long. According to ET, she plans to return to The Voice for Monday’s live show. As a fan on Twitter pointed out, this gives a whole new meaning to a lyric in her song “Broken & Beautiful”: “I know I’m Superwoman, I know I’m strong.” She certainly is.
Of course, just because Kelly Clarkson was able to power through the pain doesn’t mean you should try it at home. According to WebMD, you should seek medical attention immediately if you experience symptoms of appendicitis. This includes abdominal pain starting at the navel that becomes sharp in the lower right, as well as nausea, loss of appetite, and fever.
We’re glad Kelly’s surgery went well, and we hope she feels better soon. As awe-inspiring as it was for her to honor her commitment to the show, it’s important that she takes care of herself. Even Superwoman needs that.
