In a recent episode of the Verywell Mind Podcast with Amy Morin, Jewel opened up about her childhood, her abusive father, and her relationship with her mother, who was also her manager.
Jewel Reveals What Her Life Was Like At Home

Her experiences led her to create a non-profit foundation that focused on bettering youth mental health, called Inspiring Children, in the early 2000s. Now, she has launched her own mental health app, Innerworld, to help anyone struggling with mental health.

Her Mother Embezzled $100 Million of Her Money
Jewel shared how her mother, who was also her manager, took control of her finances and led her into debt, despite selling millions of albums. The revelation came as a shock to Jewel, who only realized her mother’s true nature in her 30s, after she had accumulated a debt of $3 million.
“My mom isn’t a villain, my dad isn’t a villain. People get some things right and people get some things wrong,” Jewel said.
Despite her success, Jewel’s personal life has been marked by struggles and challenges. Her openness about her experiences has made her a role model for many, and her work to improve mental health is a testament to her resilience and determination.
