Fans Beg Olivia Jade To ‘Shut Up On Anti-Racism’ As ‘She is The Definition Of White Privilege’
Reading Time: 3 minutes
YouTuber Olivia Jade took to her Instagram story to speak out about the murder of George Floyd. Her post left some people shaking their heads in disappointment. This comes after her parents Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli have agreed to plead guilty in their college admissions scandal. It has eyebrows raised about Olivia’s own white privilege.
The lengthy Instagram story features an analysis of how Olivia thinks people should speak up if you hear people making racist or insensitive remarks. She also linked another post about how to be “anti-racist.”
Olivia Jade Ironically Recognizes Her White Privilege After College Scandal
In the post, Olivia wrote, “As a person who was born into privilege based on my skin color and financial situation, I was not always aware that these issues were still so present.” This set people off on Twitter due to the fact that she was literally the subject of bribery on part of her parents to help her get into college. One twitter user wrote “why the f*ck is Olivia jade posting about George on her ig? SHES THE DEFINITION OF WHITE PRIVILEGE SHE CONTRIBUTED TO IT WILLINGLY…her parents cheated her way into a school and only got 2 months in jail..she is not allowed to speak on the matter holy sh*t f*ck her.”
Olivia’s parents were busted in paying $500,000 to gain their two daughters’ admission to the University of Southern California, USC. They lied about them being on the rowing team. Olivia even had a fake resume made with rowing credentials. Her mother will be serving two months in prison, paying a $150,000 fine and two years of supervised release. She will also do 100 hours of community service. Her father is set to serve five months in prison, a $250,000 fine and two years of supervised release with 250 hours of community service. When this news first broke, people were quick to point out that the couple got off easy and there have been black people who got longer jail sentences for minuscule crimes.

Twitter Is Full Of Distaste For Olivia’s Comments
There were definitely some people that were not happy about Olivia speaking up about racism and her white privilege. One person put it very bluntly in a tweet saying “How about ignorant, spoiled, rude, stupid. Girl your mother and father are going to prison for you. You’re a disgrace and a horrible citizen. STFU.” Others just did not want to hear anything on the issue of racism coming from her.
This really is an issue of blatant white privilege. Especially for someone whose parents are about to serve prison time for trying to bribe their children into college. Black woman Kelley Williams-Bolar made headlines after serving nine days in jail in 2011 after using her father’s address to enroll her children in a better school district. She was also on probation for three years and required to complete 80 hours of community service. Her story has been shared more and more after the college admissions scandal has been giving people in Hollywood and white people short prison sentences.
This right here is one of the main reasons why people are taking to the streets to fight for social justice issues. Whether it’s getting justice for George Floyd or thousands of other black people that have to deal with police brutality, it is so easy to see that systemic racism and ignorance is very present in American society. And while Olivia may have been trying to lend her voice to the call for justice it just left a sour taste in a lot of people’s mouths.

Others think she “has a right to speak but she really should shut up. Under the circumstances, her point is lost.”
