‘DWTS’ Pro Alan Bersten to Choreograph on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Alan Bersten was recently announced as a choreographer on this week’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance Season 17. This is particularly special, because Bersten was previously a contestant on the show.
Alan Bersten to Choreograph on So You Think You Can Dance
Bersten was revealed as a choreographer for this Wednesday’s new episode on Twitter. He also shared a preview for the show on his Instagram Stories. This week marks the 300th episode, as the Top 12 are revealed. Leah Remini will join the show as a new judge, replacing Matthew Morrison.
This isn’t Bersten’s first time on the show. In fact, he appeared as a contestant in 2013, for Season 10. The dancer competed in the Ballroom genre and made it to the Top 12, so it’s appropriate that he’s joining in at the same point as a choreographer.
Bersten, who has been dancing since the age of 7, compared his experiences on SYTYCD and DWTS in a 2018 interview, saying that SYTYCD is “really cutthroat.” He added, “I loved it, and it lead me to Dancing with the Stars, but it wasn’t as fulfilling as Dancing with the Stars is.”

Bersten Won Season DWTS Season 28
Bersten first joined Dancing with the Stars in Season 20 as a member of the show’s troupe. After four seasons, he became a professional dancer in Season 25. He’s appeared as a pro during every season since then.
In Season 28, Bersten was paired with The Bachelorette star Hannah Brown. Together, they won the season and took home the coveted Mirrorball trophy. Bersten was paired with TV personality Amanda Kloots in the most recent season, making it to fourth place.
Bersten also appeared on Dancing with the Stars: Athletes in 2018, paired with figure skater Mirai Nagasu. Later that year, he was a mentor to skateboarder Sky Brown and her partner JT Church on Dancing with the Stars: Juniors. Sky and JT ended up winning the competition.
So You Think You Can Dance returns this Wednesday at 9/8c on FOX.
